GreenPower has partnered with Perrone Robotics in order to equip the EV Star with TONY (To navigate you) autonomous vehicle systems that will enable fleets to easily make the transition to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star is also capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We had the opportunity to test drive the EV9 for several hours on a local freeway and found it to be a breeze to drive and comfortable for long distances. The EV9 can block wind and road noise while on the highway. It glides effortlessly over bumps and ruts. The vehicle's acceleration is surprising quick, and it features adjustable regenerative brakes that permit "one-pedal driving" simply by taking off the accelerator.
The EV9 has a wide range and can be recharged within three hours or less at home, or with any commercial charger. The driver has the option of choosing between two operating modes - eco mode and sport mode. Eco mode focuses on the torque, cruise control and handling while sport mode maximizes speed. Both modes are enjoyable to drive and offer an unforgettable experience for those who have never driven an electrical vehicle before.
GreenPower offers several other eVehicles, including a multipurpose all-electric minibus, called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used for executive shuttles, transit or microtransit buses, vanpools, or paratransit vehicles.
GreenPower produces about 10 EV Star busses a month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority. The Jacksonville Transit Authority is replacing their older diesel vehicles fleet with 100 electric vehicles. GreenPower will increase production to meet the needs of the Biden Administration who is planning to electrify all school buses in America. Their EV Star bus is the first of its kind to be tested by Altoona and FMVSS-certified. Buy America compliant and ADA conforming. This means that they are eligible for federal transit assistance grants. We will be following the AV Star as it begins its demonstration tour the coming months.
